The Town Council and its Committees meet on a bi-monthly cycle, except for Planning and Development which meets every three weeks.  The structure and powers of each of the committees is shown in the chart below.  You can click on the Committees that you're interested in to find out more detailed information.

Working Groups

 

Daventry Town Council has 17 Councillors.  It is a Parish Council and has the same powers as any other Parish Council e.g. Badby, Braunston, Newnham, Norton, Welton.  Councillors serve for a term of four years and are all normally elected in a single election, the next election being 2011.  Seats which are not filled by election are filled by co-option.  Councillors give their time voluntarily and do not get paid a salary or expenses.  The Town Clerk is the paid advisor to the Town Council and its Committees.

The Town Mayor is Chairman of the Town Council but also performs a civic role as ambassador for the Town.

The Town Council has a structured approach to policy development and decision-making through delegated powers to committees.  In order to support the implementation of these policies, the Town Clerk manages a team of officers who are available for public enquires by appointment. Council meetings are open to the public and it is possible to address the meeting by prior arrangement with the Town Clerk.
