Christmas lights switch on
What an uplifting experience this year's annual Christmas lights Switch On event was.
Despite the atrocious weather, people from all parts of Daventry converged into the High Street to enjoy the afternoon of festivities put on in anticipation of the switch on. It was wonderful to see people from all ages come together and celebrate the start of the Christmas season. With just over four weeks to go, it would seem we are all getting into the festive spirit.
During the afternoon the events gathered pace and whilst Martin Heath (from BBC Radio Northampton) was entertaining the crowd gathered at the sound stage, groups of people visited the various stalls lined up in the High Street and Bowen Square. The Sound Stage was the backdrop to a multitude of performers from local schools and organisations, giving it their best. As per usual it was all very impressive and wonderful to watch and listen to.
At 5 o'clock, the Town Mayor, Dr Frank Voeten, was invited to switch on the brand new lights alongside Father Christmas and celebrities from Peter Pan at the Deco Theatre in Northampton. If you have not seen the lights, come and have a look and don't miss out.
