Press Release for Daventry Town Council
Daventry Town Council unhappy with format of consultation on Draft Daventry Settlements and Countryside Local Plan
Members of Daventry Town Council, at its meeting on 26th November 2012, expressed grave concerns in relation to the consultation on the draft Daventry Settlements and Countryside Local Plan.
Town Councillors concerns related to the format of the document which formulated responses from a series of tick box answers that will satisfy departmental process but did not, in their view, provide quality feedback.
Members, aware that the consultation was to invite views from the local community and businesses on issues to be considered in the local plan, did not feel the consultation period of sufficient duration to enable a considered and constructive response.
The Town Council has submitted its response to questions relating to Daventry Town and expressed its concerns in relation to the effectiveness of the consultation.
Christmas Lights Event
A huge thank you to all who braved the awful weather and participated or attended our Christmas Lights Event on Saturday. Several hundred people turned out in the cold and wet to see some fabulous performances from Academy No 1, Stagecoach, Scorpion Academy and Kate Fisher’s Academy of Dance. Cinderella and Prince Charming, from Royal and Derngate’s pantomime added glamour and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs looked terrific (especially in procession up New Street accompanied by the Mayor – Ron Fox and the Town Crier – Anthony Church in all their regalia. The afternoon was rounded off by an amazing, crowd pleasing performance by local band Raw Condition.
Christmas Lights Event 2012
On Saturday 24th November we will be holding our Christmas Lights Event to coincide with the Switch On of Daventry’s Christmas Lights.
In a change from previous years, the event will take place on the New Street Recreation Ground from 2 pm with the lights being switched on at 4.30 pm.
BBC Radio Northampton’s Martin Heath will be our MC with a great line-up of local performers on the stage including Scorpion Academy, Daventry Brass, Kate Fisher’s Academy of Dance and Performer’s Academy. Local band Raw Condition will also be playing to round up the entertainment.
We are thrilled to have both Northampton Theatres joining us this year for the first time. Royal and Derngate are bringing Cinderella and Prince Charming from their pantomime with the Deco Theatre bringing characters from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
There will be street entertainers throughout the afternoon balloon modelling and face painting their way around Town.
Hope you can join us!
