Daventry Twinning - 30 years of Partnership with Westerburg

Last week Daventry Town Council and Daventry Twinning Association are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Twinning partnership 'Building a bridge of International Understanding' between Daventry and Westerburg in Germany.

The relationship between the two towns started in 1983 when three delegates from Daventry visited Westerburg and held discussions with the Burgermeister (Mayor of Westerburg). The partnership was made official when the Charter was signed on 26th October 1985 and today, members of the Twinning Association, together with Daventry Brass and Daventry Fire Station successfully maintain cultural links.

To mark the occasion, Daventry Town Council granted monies to the Daventry Twinning Association to revive the Coat of Arms and landscape the twinning area. In Westerburg, the telephone box, presented by the Twinning Association in 1985, has been converted into a library and is now a key feature in their Town.

The Chair of Daventry Twinning Association, Mavis Matthews, was delighted with the support from the Town Council and for the work done by local company, Amber Screen and Display, who kindly donated the flags and carried out the work to refurbish the Coat of Arms and stonework commemorating the event.

To commemorate the 30 Year Anniversary, Daventry Museum is showing a small display which includes the original Charter along with photographs and other memorabilia from the Daventry Twinning Association over the last 30 years. You will be able to view the display for a limited time from Thursday 29th October to Friday 13th November 2015. Open times: Tuesday to Friday, 9.30am to 1.30pm and open on Saturday 7th November 2015 from 10am to 4pm.
