Daventry embraces the Spirit of Christmas

Daventry's community spirit shone through on Friday evening as Daventry Town Council gave residents an evening to remember.

The Town centre looked magical as the Christmas lights came on and the Spirit of Christmas event began, with children enjoying free entertainment including Santa's Grotto, face painting and a circus skills workshop.

At 6:00pm in excess of 800 people gathered outside Daventry Library for the main event of the evening, Daventry's first ever Christmas Lantern Parade.

The turnout was overwhelming, the lanterns looked wonderful and people's enthusiasm and excitement was infectious. Liberty Drum Corps led what seemed to be a never ending procession of lanterns, onto the High Street where spectators awaited their arrival.

The evening ended at the bandstand with festive music and carols, performed by Daventry Choral Society, the Deco pantomime characters and Daventry Brass.

We have some brilliant photos of the event on our Facebook page which have been kindly provided by John Barnstable.

Daventry Town Council would like to thank everyone involved in reigniting Daventry's community spirit and look forward to providing a bigger and better event for 2016.
