Northampton Transport Heritage Bus Tours

Northampton Transport Heritage will be bringing their wonderful vehicles back to Daventry during Heritage Open Days in September 2023! More detailed information will follow but for now save the date below.

  • When: Saturday 16th September 2023
  • Time: 10am – 4.45pm
  • Where: Daventry Market Square
  • Entry: FREE to come along to and Family Friendly - there is an optional purchase of a programme and timetable which will be available on the day for for £2. Funds will go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the heritage buses. Programmes are also available to purchase from the Town Council and Museum office from Monday 11 September.
  • Parking: Catch a heritage bus into town and back again or free parking in town (please check onsite car park signage for time restrictions and regulations).
  • Routes: Routes will be recreating those taken by United Counties, Midland Red and this year Geoff Amos services. Ride into Daventry town from;
    • Long Buckby Square at 9.50am
    • Long Buckby Wharf at 9.55am
    • Weedon (opposite Tescos) 9.55am and 12.45pm
    • Northampton, Victoria Street at 9.25am and 12.15pm

Daventry Museum will also be open on the day to help celebrate Heritage Open Days. Entry is free and you can come look round and take part in lots of free fun activities too. Full event info is here.

SEND Sessions - There will be SEND friendly services on the day too. To ensure your seats, pick up your free tickets from the Northampton Transport Heritage stand near Murati's under the London plane tree, opposite Market Square.

Travel on these short and calm SEND (extra)-friendly journeys is on a first come first served basis. Picking up at Chapel Lane, (near Plume of Feathers Pub) Daventry. SEND users are of course welcome on ALL journeys throughout the day.

Route Times: 10.30am, 11.30am, 2.30pm and 3.30pm

Heritage Open Days 2022

When Northampton Heritage Transport visited Daventry last year on Saturday 17th September 2022 visitors to the town had the most wonderful time, read about it in our news item Heritage Buses Charm Daventry Visitors.

The heritage bus tours recreated former Local United Counties & Midland Red Bus Routes and covered 373.20 miles in total. The routes took in villages including Ashby St Ledgers, Badby, Braunston, Norton, Staverton, Weedon and Welton. All journeys were free of charge and visitors were able to buy programmes as a souvenir of the day and the profits of which go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicles.

The buses departed from Market Square, Daventry and on the day transported 2,688 passenger journeys, made up of 1,885 Adults and 803 Children - the most Northampton Transport Heritage have ever given in one day!
