DTC Councillor to take part in The Big Sleep Out 2019
On Friday 1st February 2019, Daventry Town Councillor, Aiden Ramsey, will be taking part in The Big Sleep Out to raise money for the Hope Centre in Northampton; a charity which assists Northamptonshire's poor and homeless.
Hosted by Northampton Mayor, Tony Ansell, this flagship event will see over 250 individuals brave the elements for 12 hours overnight, sleeping under the stars, in Abington Park, to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness in Northamptonshire, as well as raise funds to keep the Hope Centre open.
Cllr Ramsey said, "This is the first time I have taken part in an event of this type, and I have no doubt that there will be some challenges, especially as I have looked at the weather forecast for Friday night, and it is looking very cold. I am not going to pretend that sleeping outside for one night can ever really match the realism of what being homeless is like. For me and my fellow overnighters, we can get a sense of what homelessness is, whilst at the same time raising awareness of the issue, as well as much needed funds to keep the Hope Centre open.
Northamptonshire, like everywhere else in the UK, has issues with homelessness, and if we don't tackle the issue head on, then the situation is never going to resolve itself. This is an issue that is close to my heart and by raising money for such a valid cause I hope to give back to the community I feel proud to belong in."
Cllr Lynn Jones, Chair of Council and Mayor of Daventry said, "Cllr Ramsey is taking an incredible step to raise awareness of a national issue as well as raising funds for an excellent cause."
