DTC Celebrates World Commonwealth Day

On Monday 11th March 2019 at 10.30am Daventry Town Council will be celebrating World Commonwealth Day by raising the Commonwealth Flag at the Twinning Area in Daventry Town.

World Commonwealth Day is celebrated globally in March every year and this 2019 will see
HM The Queen deliver a Commonwealth Day message, along with Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, who will both highlight the values and principles of the Commonwealth Charter, which unite 2.4 billion people in 53 countries.

The theme for 2019 is 'A Connected Commonwealth', which offers opportunities for the people, governments and institutions of the richly diverse family of nations to connect and work together at many levels through far-reaching and deep-rooted networks of friendships and goodwill.

Members of the public are invited to attend the flag-raising ceremony on Monday 11th March 2019 at 10.30am where Cllr Lynn Jones, Mayor of Daventry and Chair of Council will deliver a short speech, with Canon Michael Webber of Holy Cross Church and Daventry Churches Together will give a blessing.

Cllr Lynn Jones said, "Marking the Commonwealth each year is a way for Daventry to show comradery and the spirit of goodwill. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Commonwealth as we know it today, making it an even more poignant occasion to commemorate."
