We're hiring a Part-Time Temporary Communications Officer

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Part-Time Communications Officer to join our office in Daventry on a temporary basis. This role is integral to the Daventry community and we are therefore looking for a passionate individual with a can-do attitude.


To promote the Town Council and its events via press releases, website, newsletter and social media platforms.

Duties and responsibilities

Communications and Marketing

1. Proactively manage marketing and communications activity with specific responsibility for marketing the Council and Council events and ensuring they are promoted in a timely, scheduled, data compliant and effective manner.
2. To plan and create engaging social media content for all channels. Monitor and respond to social media enquiries, where appropriate.
3. To compose press releases on events, council business and other news stories for distribution to the website and local media.
4. To ensure website content is kept up to date and relevant.
5. To create content for the Town Council newsletter and manage production and distribution of the newsletter to residents of Daventry.
6. Assist with devising strategies to maximise positive exposure and lead generation opportunities with regards to events.
7. Analyse the data of marketing and communications activities to provide reports on performance for submission to the Community Services Committee.
8. To manage and generate good quality digital photography and video content for the promotion of events.
9. Liaise with and support Events officer to promote Council events, activities and achievements via press releases, social media and email marketing.
10. Ensure we always adhere to and safeguard our identity and branding.


1. Undertake general office duties, dealing with enquiries from general public both on the phone and in person (ensuring queries are answered effectively and/or referred to the appropriate person).
2. To be responsible for ensuring data quality in line with GDPR regulations, both manual and electronic.
3. To support the CO/RFO and/or other members of the Town Council on specific projects/work.
4. Any other duties as required relating to the specialised function of team or teams.

Person specification

Essential skills

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Minimum of one years' experience in a communications role or similar.
Proven social media experience and marketing experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.

Desirable skills

Experience of using software such as Mailchimp, web page design and social insights.
Passion for local community and understanding of Local Government.
Experience and interest in producing video and multi-media content.
Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, or related field.
