Letter From Daventry Mayor Mike Arnold: Week 2
I don't know about you but I'm slowly acclimatising to being at home all the time but it's going to take some time to do so fully. I'm not sure my wife is acclimatising to me being home though!
On my daily outside exercise jaunts and from my window I'm pleased to see that most people are now keeping their distance and the fewer people about indicates we are going out a lot less on inessential journeys. We can all help a little too by continuing to keep contact with friends and neighbours but of course at a distance.
Many others in the town are helping the community far more than this, either as a volunteer or because you are continuing to work. For which I can only thank you.
The Town Council staff are also all continuing to work from home and with the exception of the Museum and Town Market all services are open. At home though the museum and volunteers are producing a virtual exhibition and a town history guide amongst other things. If you are confined to home please do look at this on the Museum website.
The Northamptonshire Library also lets you download magazines and books for free too, a very useful service. It's not the life we are used to or want, but we need to do this for now to protect everyone, not just ourselves.
As I said it's important to keep in touch with friends and relatives, if you have social media make new on-line friends and you can still talk to neighbours, just keep your distance and speak loudly! Plus, don't forget the humble telephone in these days of computers.
So in summary keep your distance if out, stay at home as much as possible and keep washing your hands. Please find below a link to the official Government website with further information on current guidelines and medical advice:
