Daventry Museum’s Virtual and Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities Exhibition

Daventry Museum’s Virtual and Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities Exhibition

Do you have a plethora of pottery, a whimsical animal collection, an assortment of fascinating fossils, or a ten-piece teapot collection? Maybe you have a hodgepodge of ceramic hedgehogs or a tantalising variety of old toys? If so Daventry Museum want to hear from you!

Daventry Museum's Virtual and Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities Exhibition will be an online and physical exhibition that will be shared via the Museum's website, in a 360-degree tour, their social media pages and hopefully actual museum visits when the museum reopens in the not too distant future.

They'd love you to get involved and you can do so by telling them all about your collection on an application form found on the Museum's 'What's On' webpage. Take lots of lovely photographs of the collection and send those to the museum along with your form. Entries will then be put together to form a short film titled The Virtual Cabinet of Curiosities.

Whilst you will help the museum to curate the Virtual Cabinet, the Museum Officer will be delving into the storeroom to put rarely seen items on display in the museum cabinets. Chosen and researched by the museum's team of volunteers, (who are all still very much involved even whilst home). This element will be the Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities, made up of paintings, Daventry inspired crockery and ephemera, archaeology, costume and much more.

The museum will be displaying group photographs from its archive online and in their windows in the hope that visitors will be able to help them put names to face. The team will also be sharing the history of collecting, why it is a behaviour almost solely displayed by humans and how museums will now be displaying and sharing their exhibitions in the future.

The team urge you to get in touch and be a part of this exciting new exhibition by sharing your collection with virtual and veritable visitors to Daventry Museum!

Closing date for application forms is Friday 31st July 2020
