Christmas Market Brings Festive Cheer to Town!

Christmas Market Brings Festive Cheer to Town!

Initially the rain tried to dampen the mood, the weather soon perked up for people to enjoy Daventry Town Council's Christmas Market 2020.

Held on Saturday 12th December 2020 along Daventry High Street, we were excited to host an array of Christmas stalls selling festive gifts and crafts alongside food and drink vendors, who had 'ready to go' winter treats to takeaway.

This family-friendly and free market boasted many local traders who welcomed the opportunity to bring festive cheer to Daventry, after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

Father Christmas managed to find time to join us on the day, which thrilled the children and we wish to say a big thank you to the Rotary Club of Danetre Daventry for helping to organise his visit and do this whilst complying with all the government guidelines in relation to COVID-19.

Whilst in Daventry many customers also visited some of the town's cafes, restaurants, pubs and amazing independent shops. Retailers reported increased trade and welcomed the introduction of speciality markets in Daventry, to help boost footfall in the Town centre.

For those of you who may have questioned the wisdom of holding a market, we can assure you that the Christmas Market adhered to all Covid-19 Government guidelines. We ensured stall numbers were appropriate and spread out along the whole of the High Street to enable social distancing. All stall holders followed the necessary safety precautions and provided risk assessments prior to attending.

Six council officers, Daventry Community Ranger, Daventry Town Sponsored Police Community Support Officer plus 4 County COVID Marshalls were all in attendance. However, all visitors were considerate to one another, maintaining social distance rules when queuing and walking between stalls, helping make the market such a success and bringing Christmas cheer to the town!

Feedback from both traders and visitors has been extremely positive, so much so we are being asked to confirm a date for our next seasonal market! All we can say in that regard is we will keep you posted - so watch this space!
