Daventry Town Council adopts DTCV2035

On Monday, 15th March 2021, Daventry Town Council adopted the Daventry Town Centre Vision 2035 (DTCV2035), creating a template to guide investment decisions on infrastructure, commercial growth, renewing and developing the Town's leisure facilities.

Work on the vision was started in March 2020, as Daventry District Council (DDC) recognised that the Town Centre Vision 2021 had reached the end of its intended period and the importance of adopting a Town Centre vision before Vesting Day of the new West Northamptonshire Council.

The Vision, although not a planning document, proposes to declutter and improve the public realm, improve pedestrian and cycle links to the Town, reduce traffic domination, introduce lighting, enhance the public open spaces to encourage growth of the night-time economy, re-location of the bus station to create a one-way system to give priority to pedestrians, develop land by the Police Station, West Court Car Park and Leisure Centre and a new leisure/arts/community facility on land by The Hollow. Its adoption is key to ensuring the new West Northamptonshire Unitary authority continues to work in partnership with the Town Council to realise aspirations held by many Daventry residents, especially in relation to new leisure facilities. Cllrs Randall, Maureen Luke and Peter Luke, expressed concern and disappointment that the Vision could raise people's expectations and suggested the Council refrain from adopting the vision until traffic studies, feasibility studies and further public consultation had been carried out.

Cllrs Wesley, Churchley, Brannigan, Tweedale and Tippett were supportive of adopting the Vision, stating it was aspirational, providing a framework to guide the development and growth of Daventry Town Centre for the next 15 years and without it the Town would risk becoming dated with no change or growth and proposed the Town Council take the vision forward and work with the new unitary authority to achieve many of its aims.
