Yarn Christmas Trees take Centre Stage in Daventry

Yarn Christmas Trees take Centre Stage in Daventry

The Daventry Yarn Christmas Tree Project is complete, and visitors can view the large flagship tree on display at the top of Daventry High Street, along with x20 smaller trees dotted around town in various shop windows which form a fun seasonal trail.

The community craft project was a collaborative initiative coordinated between Daventry Town Council and resident Julie Walker at the beginning of 2022. The ambitious project invited local crafters of varying abilities, to regularly meet at Daventry Museum and crochet and knit 15cm x 15cm squares. The team of crafters completed thousands of crocheted squares throughout the year which were eventually sewn together and made into various sized Christmas tree designs.

The stunning giant tree design is displayed centrally on the High Street for visitors to enjoy in the lead up to Christmas 2022. The tree has already proved hugely popular with many passing residents and visitors who have remarked on the quality and loving detail behind every crafted square. Kind supporters of many town council events, Juice Productions, were instrumental in the design and construction of the tree, taking time out of their busy Christmas schedule to put it up and assist our crafters on site. A huge thank you to them.

For extra Christmas cheer visitors can also take part in the Daventry Yarn Christmas Tree Trail 2022

The trail is a fun activity for both the young and young at heart to enjoy doing whilst in Daventry shopping!*

Simply collect a trail sheet and then find the 20 hidden yarn trees and their special baubles dotted around town in various business and shop windows, jotting down what you find in the baubles as you go.

The trail map is available to download on our website here or pop into any participating shop or business to collect one during their opening hours.

* Please note the trees will be visible from outside of all the participating shops and businesses so you can enjoy the trail at a time that suits you.

Post-Christmas the beautifully crocheted and knitted squares will then be laundered and turned into blankets and scarves for various local charities.

Please enjoy the Christmas Tree Trail and email Daventry Town Council with any pictures you may take along the way: comms@daventrytowncouncil.gov.uk
