Daventry Mayor's Bark in the Park Charity Dog Show a Pawsome Success!

POOCHES of all shapes and sizes came together for the 'Bark in the Park' charity dog show at the Hollow in Daventry on Sunday, 23rd April 2023.

The fundraising event organised by Daventry Mayor, Cllr. Malcolm Ogle and his Consort, Anne Ogle, was in aid of his nominated charity Marie Curie.

The event included a Fun Dog Show with 12 classes including Best in Show plus a Recall Scurry, and a Have-a-go Agility course. The classes were open to dogs of all ages, sizes and breeds, and owners could enter their canine friends into as many classes or activities as they liked. One hundred twenty-two dogs registered for classes, with rosettes awarded to the top-placed dogs per class and the winner going through to the final Best in Show Round. Eventually, Best in Show was awarded to Buddy with Reserve Best in Show going to Arlo.

Non-dog-owners also joined in the fun and enjoyed demonstrations, plus shopped with the many stalls at the event selling everything from doggy-related gifts and treats, crafts and the popular tombola's and raffle. Various food and drink options were also available on the day to refresh every palate, including Puppaccinos for the four-legged visitors.

Daventry Mayor Malcolm Ogle commented: "Bark in the Park had a wonderful turnout, and I'm very grateful for the community support of the event. Thank you to everyone involved in organising the event, first of all a big thank you to my wife and Mayor's Consort, Anne Ogle, who without her hard work and dedication this event would not have been possible. Also to the amazing team and volunteers at DogWhys for their expertise in managing the show and activities, friends, the wonderful Daventry Town Council team and particularly, to all who attended and of course your canine friends. The day was a resounding success, and the weather was so kind and with the help of everyone's support, I have surpassed my target of raising £2000 for my mayoral charity - Marie Curie."

Daventry Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the event. In particular, the brilliant stallholders, charities, local community groups and very generous local businesses who sponsored elements of the event and donated prizes to the tombola and raffle. A big shout out to the 497 (Daventry) Squadron Royal Air Force who were a huge help throughout the day. A special thanks to Juice Sound Ltd, who help make our town events happen and provided all the technical services, support and equipment on the day. Additionally, the fantastic Hilary from Dogwhys and her amazing team of dedicated volunteers who ran the Fun Dog Show, hugely popular Have-a-go-Agility and the entertaining Recall Scurry and also had the difficult task of choosing the winners of each class.

Bark in the Park was a Fundraising event organised by the Daventry Mayor with assistance from Daventry Town Council.
