Food Glorious Food enjoyed at Daventry Foodies Market
Daventry Town Council was delighted to host our first Foodies' Market on Saturday (16 September 2023) and bring an array of artisan food, drink and culinary-related traders to town.
The specialist food market was well supported and attracted many visitors, who enjoyed shopping with various stallholders pitched around the town, alongside free family entertainment, including a Children's Willy Wonka Town Trail, face painter, balloon modeller, craft tent and a Willy Wonka stilt walker.
The family-friendly drop-in event was spread along Daventry High Street, Bowen Square, Foundry Walk and Sheaf Street. It boasted a roster of independent stallholders selling culinary-themed gifts and treats alongside various yummy food and drink vendors. There were also multiple stalls catering for vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free and nut-free options, so every dietary requirement was available.
The delicious day coincided with various Heritage Open Days events within the town, including the nostalgic Heritage Bus Tours provided by Northampton Transport Heritage. Market visitors enjoyed free bus rides throughout the day, which recreated some of the old bus routes in and around neighbouring villages.
Additionally, Daventry Museum marked Heritage Open Days and embraced this year's theme, 'Creativity Unwrapped', which they celebrated with the help of local crafters to inspire visitors to learn new skills and get creative with them.
Daventry Mayor, Cllr. Ted Nicholl attended all events and remarked: "Wow, what a weekend! Attending so many wonderful events that complimented each other and showcased Daventry so well was brilliant. The Foodies' Market attracted many visitors from far and wide, both local and those who travelled in from further afield. Plus, the town was buzzing with the sunshine and musical interludes from the Daventry Ukulele Orchestra and Sounds of Steel steel drum musician! Having spoken to many of the Daventry's independent shops and retailers, they also enjoyed extra customers from the increased footfall in the town, which is great for the residents' benefit. I was particularly delighted to speak with the team from Demcafe who as the Mayor of Daventry are my nominated charity. They had a stall to help raise awareness about the wonderful service they provide."
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Foodies' Market and helped support the event. The many activities taking place in town made for a fantastic atmosphere, with Daventry brimming with visitors.
We can't wait to host our next seasonal market, the Daventry Christmas Market, on Saturday, 25th November 2023. Further information and updates will follow soon.
Daventry Foodies Market is funded and organised by Daventry Town Council with the great team from Juice Sound Limited providing fantastic event support.
