Daventry Christmas Market Cancelled
Daventry Christmas Market and Festive Fun Event has been cancelled due to predicted high winds of up to 45mph.
Storm Bert is expected to bring high winds and stormy weather over the weekend which has led to Daventry Town Council taking the very difficult and disappointing decision to cancel on safety grounds the Christmas Market and Festive Fun Event due to take place on Saturday 23rd November 2024.
Stallholders and Daventry Town Council staff were hopeful for the event to go ahead with the market as planned. However, the unpredictability of the high winds forecast, have meant that the market has been cancelled to ensure everyone's safety.
Commenting on the decision to close the market, Chief Officer, Deborah Jewell, said:
"It is so disheartening to have been defeated by the weather. We feel very sorry for the stallholders and disappointed for the family's who were excited to join us for some festive cheer and purchase special Christmas gifts and treats. Throughout the week, we have been closely monitoring the changing forecast but the weather predicted for Saturday remained consistently bad. It became clear that stallholders would be affected by very strong gusts of wind, so we took the difficult decision to cancel the market as the safety of everyone is our number one priority. Unfortunately, the logistics and organising of such a large scale event means that it is sadly not possible to re-arrange an alternative event this year."
Daventry Town Council would like to thank the residents and businesses for being patient and for offering their support and understanding during difficult circumstances.
Daventry Town Council organises a full programme of events during the year to showcase the excellent businesses in the town, and it is hoped residents will shop locally this Christmas and into 2025.
