Advanced Notice of Memorial Safety Testing at Holy Cross Churchyard
Daventry Town Council will begin testing memorials at Holy Cross Closed Churchyard in January 2026.
The Council is required to undertake this work to ensure that the churchyard remains a safe place for members of the public to visit. As part of this safety testing programme, all memorials will be inspected in line with national guidance, Managing the Safety of Burial Ground Memorials (Burials and Cemeteries Advisory Group, January 2009).
Any memorials found to be unsafe will be dealt with in one of the following ways:
- Laid flat
- Supported with temporary stabilisation
- Cordoned off
These measures are intended to ensure that unsafe memorials do not present a risk to visitors.
Every effort will be made to carry out this work with minimal disruption. However, visitors to the churchyard are asked to observe any warning signs in place and to exercise caution near memorials while testing is underway.
