My term as Mayor ended last week at the second virtual Town Council Meeting held last Thursday and it's certainly been quite a year as Daventry Mayor. I met a lot of interesting people, a wide range of wonderful local charities and attended an amazing range of events.
Having lived in Daventry for 35 years I thought I knew what was going on in the town, but there is so much I didn't know! Mostly, the... Read More »

'The Long Buckby Angels have been making scrubs for NHS staff as part of a new group set up on Facebook called Scrubs Up for Northants'.
We recently spoke to Reverend Dawn Stokes at Daventry Holy Cross Church to find out more on this wonderful community initiative. "I was very impressed with what the 'Scrubs Up' group had achieved through different volunteer groups and wanted the church to be able to... Read More »

Goodness me, it's 8 weeks since I started with these notes and it's funny how social distancing life, in many ways, almost feels normal. There's a natural worry about the future as well as a longing for what we are missing. In our case we have just seen (via video) my grandson taking his first proper steps with a bonus little jump included. We would rather be there in person to see this but thankfully... Read More »

Hope everyone has a happy and healthy bank holiday week/weekend and enjoyed safe VE Day festivities.
It's been a celebratory week in my household; with it being my birthday, then my son's, with a bank holiday between them. Thank goodness for the internet and delivery services, enabling us to still send and receive presents and cards.
Full marks to the staff at Daventry Town Council and the Retail Forum... Read More »

Our sponsored PCSO, Mia Ball, has been busy over the last few weeks ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of Daventry residents remains a number one priority. As part of her safety message campaign during lockdown, she has released another video detailing how residents can remain safe during this period.
Ahead of VE Day, which we are celebrating on Friday, PCSO Mia asks residents to ensure that if... Read More »

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to the week ahead, particularly VE Day on Friday (8th May) and the 75th Anniversary Year celebrations.
At the moment we feel deprived of our normal life but this is nothing compared to the wartime years. For the civilian population rationing of food, shoes, fuel and other goods lasted for 14 years. At the same time soldiers were drafted into the army, some not... Read More »

Well, it's nearly a wrap for April and sadly the extra nice weather, which I think helped to lift our spirits during this time.
This past week I've been keeping out of mischief working on the garden alongside Sheryl, my wife who has planted lots of green stuff in it! I'm still managing to keep up my cycling for exercise, although to do this safely means I have to get the brain working more to ensure... Read More »

This is my fourth message, as much as I wish that I wasn't writing in the circumstances, it is good that I can nonetheless.
With lockdown being extended last week, it's great to see how adaptable we have become to our new living restraints in a short space of time. Plus the lock down means that we have all contributed to freeing up vital NHS resources and reducing the spread of the virus. Which in turn... Read More »

I don't know about you but I'm slowly acclimatising to being at home all the time but it's going to take some time to do so fully. I'm not sure my wife is acclimatising to me being home though!
On my daily outside exercise jaunts and from my window I'm pleased to see that most people are now keeping their distance and the fewer people about indicates we are going out a lot less on inessential journeys.... Read More »
